Heroes of the Storm 2 and Cassia


Heroes of the Storm has been quiet lately, and today we found out why. The team has been working on a number of features that they are rolling together into a patch and calling it Heroes of the Storm 2.0! Beyond just a normal update this one will feature a whole new leveling system, a new currency, loot chests, and even a new hero, Cassia! Let’s take a look at the patch notes together!

Heroes of the Storm 2.0

The first change listed is the new leveling system. To boil it down, characters will level faster, have better rewards, and are no longer capped at level 20. Its a better system, and the removal of the level cap is nice, so this is a very welcome change.

The next change listed is the new Loot Chest rewards. Players will earn chests as the level, similar to Overwatch, however the chests will come in Common, Rare, and Epic qualities with the more rare chests giving better items. Players will also gain Character chests every ten levels which grant additional items for that character. Again this is a welcome change although I suspect this will mean exclusive items may get hidden behind “seasonal” chests. In any case I think this is a good way to have the team earn money, but give players a fun way to find new items.

New Cosmetic Items

What good is a MOBA without cosmetics right? Heroes of the Storm its store by adding Banners, Announcers, emojiis, portraits, voice lines and Tags for players to choose from. These can be purchased or “made” using new types of in game currency and for the most part I’m okay with these. The only new cosmetic I’m not looking forward to is tags. In Overwatch Tags are silly and easy to ignore, but if the team doesn’t implement them well Heroes of the Storm will get cluttered and annoying with them appearing everywhere.


New Hero: Cassia

The team also announced a new hero today. Cassia is another classic Diablo Character. Representing the Amazons, Cassia is a “Ranged” assassin who focuses on survival and fighting.


LIGHTNING FURY– Hurl a lightning javelin that deals 175 damage to the first enemy hit and splits into two lightning bolts that deal 175 damage to enemies in their path.


BLINDING LIGHT– After 0.5 seconds, Blind enemies in the target area for 2 seconds. Passive: Cassia deals 15% increased damage to Blinded targets.
FEND– Charge at an enemy, and upon arriving channel for up to 1.5 seconds, dealing 78 damage to enemies in front of Cassia every 0.25 seconds. Deals 50% reduced damage to non-Heroes.
Cassia Gameplay
BALL LIGHTNING- Throw a ball of lightning at an enemy Hero that bounces up to 6 times between nearby enemy Heroes and Cassia, dealing 200 damage to enemies hit.


VALKYRIE- Summon a Valkyrie that rushes to Cassia after 0.75 seconds, pulling the first enemy Hero hit, dealing 190 damage and Stunning them for 0.5 seconds at the end of her path. The Valkyrie knocks back all other enemy Heroes in her way.

Cassia looks like she will be a great new hero, and for the fist time in a while I don’t think she will be released too strong or too weak. She has a place in the meta already and will work well in most drafts. I’m excited to see what she will bring to the table!
